Greetings to All for an eBook Noob!

Hi,

This is John in Noblesville, Indiana. I am mostly retired from the practice of medicine. I still work a couple days a week but usually no more than that.

I have found that a book is a very useful tool in a restaurant. If your server is slow to show up, all you have to do is pull out your book and get engrossed in it. This insures that someone will come right over to take your order. Never fails!

Same thing when waiting on the food. Just read along and as soon as you get to a good part the food is sure to show up.

I always carry several books - I mean, you have to have backups, right? So I reasoned that one of these new-fangled (that's a technical eTerm) electronic readers would be just the ticket. All my backups in one tidy package! What could be better!

I looked at what is offered. I don't think it's anybody's business what I'm reading, don't you agree? So that eliminated the cool wireless-connected units. The newest Sony seems to have lost a little crispness when they added the touch-screen layer. So I decided to purchase the eBookwise unit for less than half of the cost of any of the others. I figure it will make a good entry-level reader for me to start with.

Actually I have been reading on my old Treo 650 (which is retired from use as a phone) but wow! That screen is tiny!

So I'm watching the postman for my new machine to arrive. I'll be grateful for any suggestions and comments - I know the reader I selected has some limitations and I'll be looking for workarounds and software to convert formats.

Great to meet everyone! I look forward to many interesting and beneficial exchanges with you!
