Definitely sign up for the free offer first. If you do the subscription first, chances are Audible will disqualify you for the free offer.
My advice is to sign up in this order:
- download two free audiobooks for a 30 day free trial period
- then activate your 3-month gift subscription just before your trial period ends
It's important to remember that Audible will automatically renew your membership at full price ($14.95 per month) unless you stop it sooner.
