Something changed (maybe, without your permission). It is called setting corruption. (descriptions, don't help. Exact names and exact settings are needed. Something is now really wacky. Calibre does not add files not selected. (  Filesystem error. Run the OS disk check utility)
If your library settings is JUST the default (as shipped) Just rename the configuration folder. It will regenerate.
If you have added plugins, those (and their settings) will be lost.
