Yes, it is possible to modify the patch. The files to edit are located in the folder 3.17.0_source, and have the extension ".txt". You can change everything behind "newdata=" and behind "newpart=". For some details see
this post. You might be surprised when you open the patch files!
Since FW 3.17.0 has already been replaced by 3.17.3, it might not be worth spending much time in modifying the patch for 3.17.0 however.
