I have a Nook and never bought a B&N e-book.
I'm going to have to find elsewhere. Since I don't want to update the desktop reader, it locked up my computer. Had to get rid of it via task manager. I have my books - all of 5 of them downloaded and I'll buy elsewhere. The e-reader is good, the service isn't.
I don't update on any app's say so. It has to tell what it is updating or improving before I hit download. Purchased security is allowed.

Just because you buy from Kobo does not mean you have to use Kobo Desktop or WiFi (with the associated risk of a f/w upgrade).
The majority of Kobo books also have an ePub formatted version available; for those you download the ACSM and allow ADE to then download the actual ePub.
