I tried this on a Kobo Aura HD (pretty much the same hack). It didn't run, and when I tried to do it again with a different FW, Ubuntu decided I was no longer allowed to chmod +x the .bat on the e-reader (it let me do it before). I gave up. PITA. Now I tend to read on paper instead of e-ink. That seems to have helped my eyes so I can save them for LCD work.
