It's possible, but I don't remember seeing anything shocking (pardon the pun). If that was the cause, what would be the prognosis?

I'll try doing the logs thing again tonight as instructed.

Serial port contacts were never soldered, and no wires were left inside the kindle. It's "stock" right now so to speak.
