I can't offer any concrete advice, only moral support.
I uploaded four books recently onto Smashwords from word doc's - and it took me several hours to slog through the Style Guide - so I sympathise with your extra difficulties with OO.
That said, it got easier each time and it's been worth the effort to see them up on multiple platforms.
Don't give up!
