The problem was that there were some scripts of KSM (and on some devices also of vlasovsoft) still running from the user partition while nickel was running. Therefore, this partition could not be unmounted properly. I hope this is problem is solved with 08. I guess your db was already malformed before you installed 08. The reason for testing the database check was not related to database problems, but to the fact that Glo HD had a rotation problem there under KSM 07.
You could try to reindex the database. You will certainly lose some information, but maybe it works somehow. If you like you can do it from within KSM: tools > nickel diverse.msh > db not so useful > db reindex.sh. I never had to try this myself, so I do not know how this will turn out.

The rotated information screen is the problem. I am glad we discovered this before publishing the release version.
That nickel booted directly into nickel is not a real problem. I guess you installed according to the "If KSM is not installed on your Reader" instruction. I added the missing last line only now (select "tools" > "activate" > "set runmenu settings.msh" > "always"). Without doing this, the device boots alternating into KSM and nickel.

There are still the runsettings (alternating between booting into KSM and nickel) at work. The KSM off screen can only show if the device was booted into KSM.
Thank you very much for testing. So there is still the rotation problem at the end of the update process. Maybe people will identify further points where the rotation problem occurs. I am sorry for the inconvenience with the alternate booting!
