Because the website restricts the resources that a single uploader can use?
i.e. You upload a book that eats up 4+ GB of RAM, and the website cannot accept other books.

It is not difficult for a malicious individual to craft a book that eats up massive amounts of RAM and breaks the website.
The fact that your book wouldn't convert on your computer is the surest sign that a website won't
let you convert it with their computer.

Maybe the reader app you are using is badly written (are you using iBooks?) -- try checking the book for errors in Sigil/callibre editor.
