Kindles are somehow limited. What about PRS-T1 from Sony, according to the specs it seems ok. Were they any good?
My first reader was the PRS-T1, the second PRS-T2. They were better than any of my subsequent kobos (5) for PDF in general (not all), thanks to reflowing and landscape possibility. They were much better for translation dictionaries (there was no single language dictionary apart from 2 outstanding English dictionaries) but annoying in that they didn't attach the language called to the book - no problem if you read just one language, annoying for me who has books open in five languages. But my T1 was low resolution with a grey screen. Notes calling and a return button made it also better than kobos for plain epubs. The T2 had a slightly better resolution and whiter screen. By the time the T3 came out, which had more single language dictionaries and a better screen, I had moved to kobos, and for me there was no turning back. I like the kepub renderer much better than the epub, which solved the note calling, and the screen quality is much much better - I have problem eyes and my orthoptist disapproved of my sony PRS-T2.

I may "whine" about the last 2 F/W versions which made it impossible for me to access full page or research for my French dictionaries (I'm French, bought my kobos in France, and consider that outrageous customer service), but I appreciate that kobo keeps improving its firmware and makes it available for older devices. Sony never did: if something didn't work and they knew how to improve it (I'm speaking F/W, not hardware), they kept it for their latest model to improve sales - with the result that they discontinued their readers line. Globally my "reading experience" has improved by leaps and bounds with every new model (except for the aura 6" with it's capacitive yellowish fuzzy gridded layer) and most F/W releases.

Many people consult me about which reader to buy, and though I dislike the Kindle closed system, I do recommend Kindle for people with no computer savvy and no one close willing and able to manage their reader. Otherwise, I recommend kobos, the glo hd or aura h2o these days.

EDIT: I wrote kobo by mistake, it was my sonys whose quality was too poor for me. I have astigmatism, vitreous detachment on both eyes (I'm not sure about the translation from the French), and my eyes tire easily. So the less than stellar quality of the sonys made my eyes tire more. And since I read a minimum of five hours every day, mostly at night, anytime a new improved device comes out, with better light, crisper characters, I buy it. I had intended to use the glo HD on the go, and keep reading on the h2o at home, especially for poetry (the increased width is a plus), but the glo HD quality is, for my eyes (not everybody sees it from what I read on the forum), better enough that I can read as comfortably with a smaller font, which compensates. Plus the smaller size and lighter weight make it definitely more comfortable to hold hours on end for my small very arthritic hands. I like the size and width / height ratio of the aura h2o though, and if there was a new one with at least the same quality as the glo hd, and if possible under 200g I'd probably buy it.
