KSM includes the ability to handle an update (actually any KoboRoot.tgz in the .kobo folder), in two ways one way is a "partial update" that protects the KSM code added to the startup scripts, that the firmware update would otherwise overwrite. The other updating option is the full update, which is good for everything else but the firmware updates.

There is also the option to delete the KoboRoot.tgz, good for that unwanted download.
