Yes, I understand exactly how you feel. This is one reason we intend to revamp it. There are a few that achieved very high karma which allowed them to give it out in huge chunks. Once one person doubled my Karma.
When that happened then the new users karma points were so insignificant that they were lost in the shuffle and it is the new users whose karma points are the most important. Who ever dreamed up the idea of giving some people the ability to shower people didn't understand the ultimate purpose of saying thank you for some help. I now only look at the messages, not the numbers. Unfortunately messages are optional.
