Kindle Touch 2 (currently the latest Kindle Basic) has no backfrontlight. The frontlit models can be turned down to where it isn't actually noticeable (reports of unusually sensitive eyes aside) and the Kobo frontlit models can have the light turned entirely off.
In case that was all that was holding you back.
