During the autumn of 1868, and on the last page of “Pathfinding on Plain and Prairie,” I bade my kind reader adieu, with the promise that if opportunity came -I would sometime resume my narrative of life and adventure in the far West. As yet but little change had come upon the scene; primeval conditions still largely obtained throughout that great region.
