I started using Calibre from the start when I got my first ereader, so I've never had a backlog of 1000s of books to be added at once. If I did, I'd probably just add them all to remove DRM, and after that point do any newly purchased books correctly with always editing the metadata. Then I'd slowly whittle away at the backlog, doing a little here and there each day until I caught up, even if it took a year.

I only buy what I know I'm interested in reading though. I get a lot of freebies off Amazon as well, but if it's not something I want to read, I don't download it, even it's free. I already have more than I can read in probably 4 lifetimes.
