I have a vintage (nearly dead screen) K2 against just that eventuality.
I long ago extracted its PID but it's still registered.
It may only deliver mobi7 instead of KF8 files but I'm not a stickler for fancy formatting anyway.
Thing is, Amazon doesn't care that much about hardening their DRM.
They seem to mostly go through the motions to keep up appearances.
