If that is so, would almost everything considered for the science fiction month necessarily be written recently?

Science Fiction involves
speculations based on current or future science (theories and facts) or technology which are usually considered possible within the scientific laws of nature. It then goes further to explore the consequences on the human condition. The science used would be relative to the time and place at which the book was written.
Fantasy tends to use more purely imaginary and less fact as its base: Magic, the supernatural, myths, legends, creatures (vampires, werewolves, fairies, etc.)
The two are, of course, intertwined often, creating
Speculative Fiction (which can also include Horror) but they are very separate genres on their own.
