I don't think that is the case if we are discussing a specific book and the politics of that book. Here is a quote from Alexander Turcic (the guy who runs this place) from when the P&R restriction was put in place that implies that IF it is a book being discussed it would be allowed.

Since talking about content in a specific book, especially one the book club is discussing, it would have a connection to the site's theme and would therefore be allowed. Certainly if people went off-topic or started proselytizing it would be squashed but as long as it is relevant to the book being discussed it should be OK.
