Although, a friend recently let me know about a temporary sale price on an MP3 "album" he thought I would be interested in. The regular price was about $10, and he got it for $2.69. When I checked -- same item, same sale campaign, same end date -- the sale price they offered me was $2.49.

I assume their algorithm for setting sale prices includes some data or assumptions about how likely it is that they'll make a sale to any given individual. and how low they have to go to get that particular sale.

While it felt nice to be offered the album for $2.49, I couldn't help but wonder how many people (if any) were offered that album for $2.29.
