Library on Passport

Hi All

Hope this is the right place to post this qustion.

Running Linux Mint on a Acer Laptop.
Recently changed from Win8 to Linux.
Everything installed OK, but I do not want to install the thousands of books onto the laptop.
I have the library on my USB Passport.

When I try to Switch / Create Library the usb Passport doesn't show.
Even logging on as root, it doesn't show.
I can access the passport normally from my Group, so don't understand why the drive doesn't show.
Admittedly I am new to Linux.

Does anyone have experience with this problem ?

Regards
