You're weird. (Not that I wuv you less for it, though.) That's one of the things that makes me positively bonkers on Hulu--the forced-march commercial-watching. I wouldn't mind if I could fast-forward through the damned things.
No, I take that back. I bloody well WOULD mind. I mean, think about it: we've been so conditioned that we don't care that now, networks are taking shows that were COMPLETELY FREE TO US, send OTA (Over the Airwaves, via regular old antennae), recycling them in reruns, making us PAY to watch those reruns of formerly free content, and worse, forcing us to watch commercials, that we didn't have to watch the FIRST time around, due to technology? Really? And we think, what, that we're making advances here?
So, we're paying to watch reruns of formerly-free content WITH commercials. Are we
idiots?
I have Hulu so that I can catch up on a UK (BBC) show that ran for 12 years, and it's cheaper for me to have 1 year of it versus buying the same show on Amazon. However, once that year is up, that's it. I don't mind paying for Netflix; yes, some of what's on there is former "free" TV, but at least it has a vast number of choices, even if most of them suck. Amazon Prime comes with the Prime membership, even if most of their choices are pretty lame--20-30 year old movies, etc. Yes, they have that deal with HBO, but so what? If you already have HBO, you've seen all the "good stuff" anyway. (And really: who has Amazon Prime that doesn't already have HBO, if you think about it?)
I don't particularly mind paying for AcornTV, either, as that's a small niche market. (I do object to their consistent inability to get the cc right, though. I tend to send them very nasty Twitter and FB messages--it's the only thing to which they respond--when the CC gets out of whack, as it does about once every week).
But paying for Hulu? Man, that's just...one step too far in some direction. It's like their "on demand" channels (Fox, et al) where again--you can't fast-forward or skip the commercials. I realize that they have their bones to make, but hell, just CHARGE for the damn shows, instead of this crap. But at LEAST don't insult me by making me watch adverts. That's just...downright infuriating. (Oh, and really? They can't even TELL you which shows have cc, and which don't? And moreover, make it almost impossible to get it to work? For those of us with a deaf or near-deaf person in the house, GOSH, THANKS A LOT!)
