Remembering Babylon by David Malouf springs immediately to mind, though it isn't a conventional "rags to riches" sort of immigrant story at all.
We also read Kate Grenville's The Secret River last year I believe. I've read Remembering Babylon as well. Both are fine reads, but I seemed to enjoy Kate's more.
