In Windows 7, you could put lesser used programs (or even folders) in parent folders to keep them out of the way of the apps you use more often. Groups in Windows 8 don't offer anything resembling that. Every group you add to the Windows 8 start screen actually makes the start screen use more space, which is the exact opposite of folders in Windows 7.
