This sort of stuff happens, especially in the first days after release. I remember the OS X 10.3 Panther update hosing peoples connected external drives, I think.
Anyway, from what I have read it seems that most people are not having issues either upgrading or installing Windows 10. I upgraded my crappy old laptop that I barely use from 7 to 10 without a single hitch whatsoever.
