Did you do a factory reset after the transfer? Strictly it shouldn't be needed, but the two times I have restored an image, I had some strange behaviour until I did this.

I do not really think that the sd card is the culprit, because as long as I don't boot into Nickel everything stays readable (koreader and coolreader work fine).
Of course Koreader and Coolreader are fine. They don't go near the database.

Are you starting nickel from KSM? If so remove that and see what happens.
