What to do when a device dies?

I can't seem to find any general troubleshooting directions.

I bought an Icarus Illumina E653 earlier this month and it has stopped working. It doesn't turn on, even after recharging, resetting, etc. It doesn't show up as a disk on my computer. Any tips?

It is under warranty, but the manufacturer's support site is buggy, and they expect me to pay shipping costs of more than half the price of the e-reader itself, and I don't know about repair costs.
