My Windows 7 computer has never recognized my Fire HD, so long ago I got a 99 cent app for the tablet. One uses the web browser to find the tablet, then goes to the /BOOK folder, then uses the tablet to find the right folder in the computer, then downloads it. It wasn't a BAD system, hardly more laborious than rooting around and finding a USB cord, but Send to Kindle is much, much better.

to get it recognised in windows.... connect fire tablet while tablet is OFF, then turn it on. windows should then do its
new hardware detected thing, and after that it is oK.
It is worth while to get that sorted in case you want to sideload larger music or video files that cannot be emailed
let calibre manage the USB transfer - it knows where to put stuff, takes care of cover art....
the "right click" thing you are doing - what is sending the email and to where - calibre ? your email client ?.
the one advantage of mail it to amazon it that a copy also goes into your cloud. the downside is that you can't email azw ( I think) and you must set mobi to "old " or to "both" in the relevant preferences page of calibre, for mail via amazon to work.
