I've had a few problems with Kindle for PC and never used it for reading anyway so I finally just uninstalled it. I have a few Kindles but if I didn't I think it might be worth it to buy a used or refurbished basic Kindle anyway just because it's simpler to manage. I download everything "to transfer via usb", I can put the file anywhere I want it, and it has a real name so I can tell which file is which book.
