Aliens appear.
Cross an alien sea and get stranded.
Launch a rescue party.
Daring escape.
Last-ditch attempt to breach the environment's secret before escaping.
Oh, and there's the possibility Earth will blow it up with the exploration crew inside.

It's not my favourite Clarke book, far from it, but he was one the three greatest sci-fi writers of the 20th Century. His droppings are better than most writers' masterworks.

To say nothing interesting happens is, as my list proves, silly You should have stuck with your subjective assertion that you find it boring.
