I ended up just using the "bulk discounts" - the $20 off $100 purchase (of consumable stuff I use all the time), the gift card deal (ebooks, woo-hoo), the deal on health and beauty products (hello, vitamins) and the Kindle Unlimited (which I had been meaning to try). Never found any deals on any specific sale items that were of interest.
Now, of course, Amazon has screwed up the delivery on some of my items - I opened a box addressed to me, and it had several things in it I had not ordered, and it was missing the things I had ordered. Although Amazon was very cooperative, and is sending replacements via overnight delivery, it took about 30 minutes on the phone to get it straightened out, so in the end I'm not sure how much the deals were really worth vs. my time. Sigh!
I guess it's not too strange that after a days with "record sales", they would goof up some deliveries, but still sort of a bummer.
