Possibly it is because my wireless mouse uses the logitech unifying receiver which is a USB device, so if calibre is scanning that for some weird reason, in case it might have morphed into an e-reader... ?

Calibre locks up my entire system for about 45 seconds, and I don't have a wireless mouse. I don't remember (I'm at work) how many of the fixes above I've tried, other than I know I haven't cleared out the Windows Update/hotfix folder(s).

Calibre didn't always do this. It started up when I upgraded....but I couldn't tell you if it was 6 months ago or when it started. I found it annoying, but I figured Kovid would just tut-tut about what a PITA Microsoft was, so I never asked about it here.
