I am using Calibre 2.5. I will update right now to newest version and try again.

I have had similar problems with the kindle (k3) battery, even with books purchased from Amazon! If they cannot be indexed for some reason the device just keeps on trying and uses the CPU and battery charge. I didn't like the book in any case (LOL). I am afraid that I just deleted it. I also turned the device OFF/ON (not reset, that was my next try if still a problem). Whatever, I read a couple of hours last night and still at 100%, so back to normal :-)

Update: Yes! Thank you, that was the problem. I pressed "Send to device" and I assume it converted and sent a .kepub file? The device says "kobo epub" and Calibre just saved the original .epub version, so that sounds correct.
