X-Ray builder is FLOSS software that reverse-engineers the
format of the
ancillary ebook data files in question, and downloads new, freely-available data, formats it for the Kindle, etc.
This is because reverse-engineering of a file format is not a copyright violation. Distributing the X-Ray files Amazon ships with their books would be a copyright violation, however... which is why no one here does that.
The registration hack is similarly owned and open-sourced by one of our members here -- it doesn't belong to Amazon.
Dictionary files that Amazon owns, regardless of their price value, cannot be legally distributed without Amazon's permission, which they have not given.
