I've been reading The Governess by HRF Keating (writing as Evelyn Hervey). A murder mystery set in London in 1870 featuring (surprise!) a governess. I've quite enjoyed the setting, but I have a real problem with the mystery side of it. Basically there was an obvious suspect, who was ignored by the main character for no particularly good reason for the whole book, and who now seems to have been the murderer. Unless there's a really good twist in the last two chapters, I'll have to put it down as a disappointment. OK, I had missed part of the motive, but even so I expect more convincing misdirection.
