Six FREE Neil deGrasse Tyson Lectures about the Universe, from The Great Courses!

The Great Courses company is offering six lectures by renowned astrophysicist and television personality Neil deGrasse Tyson, free. The only "cost" is an inconvenience factor--you have to set up an account with them. The requirements to do that are very minimal, however.

All of the lectures come from a Great Courses course entitled "The Inexplicable Universe." The six free ones are available as audio and/or video (am I allowed to say that on this audiobooks thread? ha). All of the lectures are 30 minutes long, which is a typical length for a Great Courses course (I wish the classes of all of the courses that I took in college had been only 30 minutes long! Some of them were several hours long!)

Now, The Great Courses states that these six courses are a $94.95 value, which is probably true, if you are basing that on the full price of the course. (But, there's never a need to pay full price for one of their courses--discounts and sales abound. Furthermore, most of the time you can get them from resellers at a much cheaper price than The Great Courses offers them. If you want to know more about this, PM me; if the interest is great enough I will make a post about it.)

Some of you in the U.S. may be thinking, "I can get basically the same thing watching Tyson's shows on television." Well, The Great Courses' courses are college level, the ones on TV are not. By the way, I've bought many courses from them over the years, and almost all of them have been excellent. I'm sure that this one is, too.

Here is the webpage that you can go to to sign up or to get additional information. Oh yeah, The Great Courses is kindly offering the six free courses to those of us who are already members, too!

Unfortunately, the lectures won't present the latest, fasinating discoveries about the "dwarf planet" (whatev! G.) Pluto, as they are way too new.
