I've never seen the credit offered for anything but digital purchases, before.

I saws no other announcement or explanation, so I don't know if this is a long-term change. Anyway, I didn't need any sports/outdoors goods, so I passed on it.
I think this is a part of the Prime Day specials, though I'm not certain.
