Doggy car seats sometimes have you attach their harness to the seat strap, closely enough that they know they don't have jumping room? You'd have to rig up something, but it's worth thinking about. Maybe. Good luck! I'm glad Norton wasn't hurt (at least, you don't mention that he was....)
