in another thread, I read that the AZW6 approach splits the book into text and images, with the images stored in a separate subfolder. which is why calibre does not yet? support import of that format.

I wonder why Amazon did this, I doubt their primary motive was to mess with 3rd party tools, but I can't think of a sensible reason to depart so much from epub method, unless it is to simplify serving different resolution images to different devices ?

I also wonder if this is to be the new norm for all new amazon books and , if so, where support for this is ranked on calibre's to-do lists?

Google search is little help, all it finds are links back to mobileread discussions. It seems to be another "stealth" rollout by Amazon
