The nice thing about borking is that they can actually try out the preview on devices to verify that the content is, in fact, formatted correctly (except that the text is absurd), but can't possibly use it without paying for the real copy.

Improved scripts:

http://kinji.gatwood.net/borkify_pl.txt

On OS X, rename as borkify_epub.sh and borkify.pl and then type "./borkifyepub.sh filename.epub". A couple of seconds later, you'll see a borked copy of the EPUB alongside the original.

A Word from the Author

This book is the first in a series of three. To tell the truth, I just woke up one morning and had the urge to write a novel. As I started thinking about it, the ideas just sort of fell into place at a high level, and I wrote the first few chapters in my spare time near the end of my graduate studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

As veeth uny pruject dooreeng gredooete schuul, thuoogh, in zee ind, veeth su muny theengs cumpeteeng fur my teeme, my zeesees vun, und zee buuk set oon a shelff (oor mure eccooretely, oon a herd dreefe) fur mure thun a yeer beffure I hed teeme tu vurk oon it egeeen. Bork! Bork! Bork!
