I couldn't get the standalone version to work either, but, IIRC,
mjwilson's Calibre plugin worked for some books the last time I tested it.

AFAIK, you can't define search preferences in a book, you can only embed a custom link to the corresponding Wikia site.
IMHO, a custom search extension would be the best solution and a Kindle dictionary the easiest solution (it takes only a couple of minutes to
convert a tab-delimited text file into a Kindle dictionary and all required tools are freely available).
