Clicking on the words will probably not work, except for single-word non-alias words. "Mim", for Children of Hurin, should work. Even if you add proper aliases and all the occurrences of the character in the book are identified it may not work. It was something that never seemed to make sense about the X-Ray feature.
I don't have a Kindle at all anymore, so I can't do anything to fix it unless someone is able to figure it out.
Is the X-Ray you built missing characters even from the X-Ray menu itself? There are quite a few blank entries for characters in Children of Hurin.
