Cool Free (nook/Kindle/Kobo/iTunes) War Against the Mafia by D. Pendleton [Vintage Action]

The Executioner: War Against the Mafia by the late Don Pendleton (SYKM, Wikipedia), widely considered the founder of the modern action adventure thriller genre For Men™, is the ground-breaking vintage classic 1st in his wildly popular and long-running series starring ex-Vietnam War vet Mack Bolan, which is now up to some 400+ tie-in franchise continuations written by an assortment of ghostwriters (Wikipedia), this installment being one of the handful of original ones actually written by Pendleton, with a plotline revolving around Exactly What It Says In The Title as a good action adventure thriller For Men™ should, free courtesy of publisher Open Road Media, who are e-printing it from its original 1969 publication.

This is one of their rare non-public domain supplementary freebies to their regular daily PD giveaways.

Currently free just for today (July 7th) @ B&N, Amazon (not free for Canadians, which Amazon has this nasty habit of regularly skipping the ORM freebies, but at least we've got alternatives), Kobo & iTunes & Google Play (all available to Canadians).

Unlikely to cross the pond, as ORM freebies are typically only discounted in North America. However, their reprints are couponable or otherwise eligible for discounts, and do tend to sometimes be additionally marked down to $2.99 or less (usually also just in North America, which unfortunately doesn't help overseas Gentle Readers who are unwilling to lie about their origins).

And this has been the (late!) selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.

Because not only is this a real treat for Mack Bolan fans (of whom there are sufficient out there to support a 400+ novel continuation of an ancient 60s-era series, and statistically we should have at least a few lurking around MR), but it's also rather nice for Gentle Readers in general to get the original introduction to a character which could inspire such a long-running franchise and devoted fanbase over the decades from a publisher who've always been generous with the discounts and freebies.

(ETA: here's a nifty review of this with some backgrounder info about Pendleton and the writing of the original series. Apparently the entire Pinnacle Books line was created to support and promote these.)

Enjoy!

Description
To avenge his family, a soldier brings home the Vietnam War

In the jungles of Southeast Asia, no sniper was more ruthless than Mack Bolan. After twelve years in-country, with ninety-five confirmed kills, he comes home to the United States only to find that his father has gone berserk, slaughtering his family before taking his own life. But Mack knows his father was no killer. He was under pressure from a gang of Mafia thugs who were after his money and were willing to destroy his life to get it. For the sake of his old man, Bolan declares war on the men who drove him mad.

Five loan sharks are getting into their car when a bullet slams one of them to the ground. Before the others can draw their guns, four more shots ring out, leaving them as the first casualties in the Executioner’s war. From his hometown to every city in America, Mack Bolan will deliver justice from the barrel of a gun.
