If that icon wouldn't show, and no popups, I would not have de-installed. If the icon had stay hidden (as I said it should do) even after a reboot, I'd probably not have de-installed. The taskbar is already short (I can show maybe 2 or 3 applications on it before it's full), showing an extra unnecessary icon is simply a waste of space.

And with the current setup where the update will be staggered, there is absolutely no reason at all to sign up now and get the update the 29th. Because you won't.
