If you don't have to use the Kindle app then there are other much better options like a combination of Moon+ Reader [Pro] and either Google TTS Service or IVONA both of which work great.

IVONA's voices are obviously more realistic and nicer, tho. The UK Amy version is my most favorite one between them!
