Do not rush into opening the device. There is a chance that you will do some damage to it. Let us first try some other things.
Did you try to start nickel via tools > kobo diverse.msh > start nickel no fmon.sh. If nickel works you can factory reset the device if you decide to do so.

Did you try whether the device does mount an external sd? Insert the sd. After some seconds select tools > external sd.msh > show mount info sd.sh. If the device does mount the sd, we can use it to copy a kobo firmware update package to the device. Or, if this does not solve at least some parts of the problem, we can try to factory reset the device via a script. And maybe you want to save some files from the device to the sd.

For the moment do not try to uninstall or update KSM. Do not try to launch koreader. If the screen rotates, force the device to power off (by holding the power button for 20 seconds in the off position), and restart anew.

Another thing: You can also try to tap on the bottom corners while restarting. Somewhere in this forum, there is a description, I think you have to hold the power button or the light button pressed while doing so.
