back to fonts and features, ( which I think was why the question of avoid updating arose)
I downloaded the book Elven to K for PC & into calibre. This is the new book that hyphenated when downloaded direct to fire, but not when downloaded direct to voyage.
in the book css I see
body {
-epub-hyphens: auto;
-webkit-hyphens: auto;
....
i guess that triggers the hyphenation on devices which have the capability , but is ignored by the voyage' current firmware, so if I keep that book on device, and there is a later voyage update, it may well then begin to hypehate
