Fiction about odd occupations

I've been watching "Der Tatortreiniger" lately. It's about a German crime scene cleaner (Heiko "Schotty" Schotte ) who has odd interactions with the family, freinds and neighbours of the victims. It's very funny in a surreal way.

I'd love to have something like that in book form to read. The only thing that comes to mind is the Barney Thomson books ("The Long Midnight Of Barney Thomson", etc.), which I enjoyed tremendously.

Any suggestions?
