Wondered where you'd got to (pretend the "old" bit isn't there, 'kay?):

Judging from the ingredients, that sounds closer to what we call FruitCake over here. Lots of dried fruits, held together by a very little bit of sweet bread batter. Frequently doused with alcohol.

I would say, "Not quite". You see "
Christmas Cake" is "Fruit cake", and is more...cake-y. It's also often covered in marzipan and thick white icing, but underneath it all it's essentially fruit cake. Christmas Pudding is definitely far more moist and...pudding-y, owing to the way it's made (boiled and steamed). Thus the reason it goes well smothered in brandy custard (or plain), thickened or whipped cream, and vanilla icecream (note the "and" - people who limit themselves to one selection are quitters!).
Cheers,
Marc (about to go shopping for Christmas foodstuffs, which include ingredients for the
5 Minute Chocolate Mug Cake)
