Edith Nesbit, English author and poet, is primariy regarded as a writer of children’s books. However, she also wrote over two dozen novels and story collections for adults.
The Red House is a light-hearted tale about the first year of marriage of a happy young couple. Len inherits a huge old white elephant of a mansion, and Chloe insists on living in the Red House, although they really can't afford it.
Those who read Nesbit’s books about the Bastable children may recall in
New Treasure Seekers the episode of “The Young Antiquaries,” and the first introduction of “Mr. and Mrs. Red House.” This book brings the opportunity to learn about that adventure from the adults’ perspective.

It's a fun, fast read, and surprisingly undated (references to Victorian-era clothing and transportation don't count). Hope you enjoy it!
